Request for Information

Dendermonde with Inverted Center

This is the rarest stamp of Belgium : catalogue number Yvert & Tellier 182a , 65c. , claret and black , with inverted centre or with inverted frame. There are only 17 copies known : fifteen mint and two cancelled. For some more information please read the book review published by Dr Iain Stevenson on page 112:77 in The London Philatelist of march 2003 and as well as on the website www.belmophil.org

The book, bilingual French / Dutch, illustrated full colour, is available from the author for 30 euro port included in advance by international postal money order.

We now have located fourteen of the mint stamps and two cancelled stamps and have illustrations and written descriptions of them in our records. The fifteenth mint copy probably has plate number 3 in Arabic on base margin of the sheet. We published a similar request in the American Philatelist of September 2000 because we thought that the owner probably resided in the United States, but we never got a response. So we try now again.

The very last information we have is that this stamp was sold in a public auction organised by De Kloboukoff in hotel Scheers in Brussels in may 1924. Unfortunately , due to a lack of time, the picture of the stamp could not be published.

We would appreciate very much if the owner of that stamp could provide a copy of it and also the story about how he got it. Of course this information will be treated confidentially if required. Many thanks in advance.
