| DENDERMONDE |
Dendermonde with inverted center This is probably not the rarest stamp of Belgium but well the stamp with the highest catalogue value : catalogue number Yvert & Tellier 182a, 65c. , claret and black. Only 17 copies known : 15 mint and 2 cancelled. We have now 14 mint and 2 cancelled in picture and with description. The 15th mint copy is with plate number 3 on base margin of sheet. We would appreciate very much if the owner of that stamp could provide a copy of it and also the story about how he got it. Of course this information will be treated confidentially if required. We came to a deadlock after finding the only following information : " Sold in 1924 in Brussels in hotel Scheers in a public auction organised by P. De Kloboukoff. In the description was mentioned - due to a delay it was impossible to make a picture of this stamp " Any information is welcome on my e-mail (rverpoort@belmophil.org) on this site. Many thanks in advance : |

Introduction The type Marchand is the first stamp in its kind printed with both Wifag printing-machines. Printed in heliogravure on paperrolls in advance supplied with gum. Late Raymond Huberty made a first inventory concerning the different characteristics of the different plate numbers. Later on, Eric Mesdagh fixed the position and ordered properly the dots so that his conclusion was that each used cilinder had its own dots characteristics. Since 1995 Gaston Wuyts ordered the different used cilinders per value. Appointed characteristics for ordening the printing
cylinders The first Wifag machine started working in 1951 and printed numbered sheets without a date. Later on, using also the second Wifag, all sheets got a printing date. Co-operators are |
